My clients are an early stage company developing next-generation displays. Its founders are leading UK scientists and it has recently assured a funding round from established tech investors.

Applications are invited for experienced Materials Chemists - Synthesis / Formulation.

The successful candidates will play key roles in a new and highly skilled team developing materials and processes which have not been done before as well as executing lab work following formulations recipes and characterization protocols. They will work closely with experienced chemists and material scientists to progress formulations and products to the next stage of performance required from customers. The roles will will be located in brand new custom designed offices and laboratories.

These Materials Chemists - Synthesis / Formulation roles are commutable from Thame, Abingdon, Kidlington, Oxford, Witney, Bicester, Charlbury, Eynsham, Wallingford.

Responsibilities will include some of the following:

Preparing polymer formulation batches following developed formulation recipes.

Carrying out stability testing of formulation and films.

Performing characterisation such as viscosity, optical microscopy and optical performance.

Preparing substrates and materials for formulations.

Synthesis of nanocrystals and optimisation of synthetic processes.

Characterisation of products and intermediates using chemical (FTIR, NMR, ...) and optical methods (UV-Vis, PL, microscopy).

Planning and executing experiments under the guidance of an expert principal scientist.

Reporting of experimental procedures and results.

Performing all laboratory work in a safe manner and adhere to company policies and standard operating procedures.

Sharing basic maintenance and housekeeping duties of laboratory equipment and chemistry laboratories areas.

Completing batch formulation records and other subsequent documentation and input in company database.

Maintaining adequate stock of chemicals and consumables.

Requirements:

The role would be ideally suited to candidates who can demonstrate:

Undergraduate degree in chemistry, materials science or related disciplines (or equivalent experience).

Experience with common chemical and optical analytical methods.

Ability to follow strict synthetic protocols and be reproducible.

Ability to work independently and find solutions to problems.

Excellent observational and record keeping skills.

Good interpersonal and communications skills, and the ability to work as part of a team.

Creative, motivated, and committed to continuous learning.

The following experience is desirable:

Some experience in a commercial R&D entity.

Experience with medium scale synthesis equipment and purification methods.

Experience with formulation preparation and deposition of resin/inks thin film using spin coating, blade coating etc.

Expertise in manufacturing processes and QC/QA processes.

For these roles, you will need to have the right to work in the UK.

Salary up to c£40k for very well-matched candidates with extensive relevant experience, plus tax efficient share options.
