Afternoon / Evening Domestic Abuse Support Worker who has experience supporting service users in one or more of the following areas: Domestic Abuse, Substance Misuse, Offending Behaviour, Mental Health or Physical Health Problems and Homelessness is required for a well-established organisation based in East Sussex.

SALARY: £28,500 pro rata (Actual Salary for Part-Time Hours £19,600 per annum) + Benefits

WORKING HOURS: Working 8.5 Hour Shifts (8 hours with half hour unpaid break) 4 on 4 off, 14:30 to 23:00 hrs. Average weekly hours of 28

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for an Afternoon / Evening Domestic Abuse Support Worker who has experience supporting people in one or more of the following areas: Domestic Abuse, Substance Misuse, Offending Behaviour, Mental Health or Physical Health Problems and Homelessness.

As the Afternoon / Evening Domestic Abuse Support Worker you will provide afternoon and evening activities, triage, assessment and induction at any time during a shift as needed within a property of up to 12 female residents who are survivors of domestic abuse with multiple compound needs. Needs will include at the least, three of the following:

• Domestic Abuse

• Substance Misuse

• Offending Behaviour

• Health Problems (physical and mental)

• Homelessness

Working as the Afternoon / Evening Domestic Abuse Support Worker this will be achieved by:

• Delivery of structured and unstructured activities designed to support survivors achieve safe, secure lives free of domestic abuse

• Supporting safe community integration through the development of healthy professional and personal relationships

• Ensuring that residents and the building are safe and secure throughout the shift, ensuring all significant events are appropriately recorded and communicated to relevant team colleagues, in line with procedures

DUTIES

Your duties as an Afternoon / Evening Domestic Abuse Support Worker include:

• Undertake assessments of need and risk

• Receive and translate partner agency assessments and data to the organisation’s own triage and assessment

• Responsible for completing assessment of need and risk and supporting survivors to reduce risk

• Assist in the development of care plans to ensure each survivor has a bespoke plan

• Work as part of a team, including volunteers, engaging with survivors, to support safe re-integration into the community

• Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with colleagues, survivors, and partnership staff from other agencies

• Review survivors’ well-being and take an active interest when on shift

• Assist with the induction of new residents

• Regularly engage with survivors in a pro-social manner, praising pro social behaviours and attitudes and sensitively challenging anti-social, aggressive or abusive behaviours

• Report any significant changes and share key information relating to risk of harm/and or reoffending or any non-compliance

• Maintain an active presence, undertaking regular inspections of the building, including the grounds throughout the period of duty

• Assist with room inspections

• Support and create a safe working environment for staff, volunteers survivors and visitors by adhering to Health and Safety legislation

• To provide appropriate First Aid if a resident is injured or self-harms

• Act as Fire Warden

• Maintain records and files

• Participate in handover briefings at the beginning and end of each shift

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Essential

• Good numeracy and literacy skills

• Experience of working with a diverse range of people who have experienced a range of social/personal difficulties including substance misuse, mental health challenging and housing issues

• Good understanding of domestic abuse

• Experience of working with Microsoft Word, Outlook and basic Excel

• An understanding of safeguarding

• Able to work alone, without guidance

• Work on a shift which covers evenings and weekends

Desirable

• Previous experience of working within a residential setting

• Previous experience of working with women

• Experience of working with groups or individuals in order to support, motivate and change behaviour

• An understanding of factors relating to multiple, compound needs

• Knowledge and experience of the work within the Criminal Justice System

This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check with the additional barred list check. All required checks will be undertaken as part of the pre-employment process for any successful candidate.
